Through this structural work the student inthe normal school gains an insight not only into his professionas a teacher, but knows at least a little of that which concernsthe life of the masses. He does not know what the pupils workin life may be, but through such training is fitting them formany lines of industry, and is entering into their life and ex-perience. As working drawing is the language of construction, sodecorative drawing is the language of beauty or ornament, notonly when applied to the thing constructed, but even in itsgeneral form or outline. This branch of drawing deals with thehistory of art, with the principles of design; and with the appli-cation of these principles to every possible line of constructiveand decorative work. It involves the study of the theory of colorand its applications to structural and decorative purposes, andincludes the planning of harmonious schemes
