Title
Cast copper alloy fragment of purse bar/purse frame
Description
English: Very worn cast copper alloy purse bar dating from the early post-medieval period, i.e. c. AD1500-1550. It is composed of a horizontal bar with circulat cross session which ends in a bulbous terminal at either end. On this bar, one of the terminals is missing. The remaining terminal is decorated with four very basic moulded swirly lines. There is a small rectangular box in the centre with a vertical perforation. This would have received the swivel suspension loop to attach the purse to the belt or girdle.
