| Description |
English: in 1904, Pulaski County, Indiana demolished its old jail in Winamac so that a new one could be built on the same site. The county sheriff arranged for a railroad boxcar to be moved onto a siding so that it could be used as a temporary jail.
One evening in late February or early March of that year, two thieves were placed in the boxcar.That night, a freight train came through town; the train crew, unaware of the boxcar's purpose or contents, coupled it to the train and took it (and the prisoners) with them. |
