Description
English: Infrared absorption modes (molecular vibrations) for carbon dioxide, starting from a symmetrical molecule (top). The bottom mode is symmetrical and not detected in an IR spectrum; only asymmetrical stretching and bending produces its characteristic absorption peaks at certain allowed wavelengths.
