Summary[edit]
DescriptionCairn, Live Moor - geograph.org.uk - 1703285.jpg |
English: Cairn, Live Moor Looking across Whorlton Moor to Gold Hill and Brown Hill otherwise known as Carlton Moor. The route of the Cleveland Way can be seen snaking its way up the hill on the right.
The patterns in the heather on Gold Hill has been achieved by cutting the heather. This is an alternative to the traditional practice of burning. Heather is burnt to restructure the plant cover so that areas of the ideal heights exist for nesting and feeding for both grouse and sheep. Burning is carried out on a ten to fifteen year rotation. |
