| Description |
Nederlands: Negatief. Hoe belangrijk de tweede gewassen vaak ook waren, zowel voor eigen gebruik als voor de markt, in de meeste streken op Java bleef de rijst economisch, sociaal en cultureel nummer één. Geen enkel ander gewas werd in die mate omringd met rituelen. Vooral de rijstoogst werd uitbundig gevierd. Na deze oogst werd de grond doorgaans vrij snel weer voor andere gewassen gebruikt. Soms verhuurde (verpachtte) men de grond na de oogst aan een Westerse onderneming. Dit betrof vooral suiker- en tabaksondernemingen. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
