Description |
English: White bust of young man with close-cropped curly hair, bare shoulders, and wreath of flowers at curved base of bust. Marble bust of the angel Sandalphon by sculptor Florence Freeman. In his 1858 poem, "Sandalphon," Longfellow described the "Angel of Prayer," who "...gathers the prayers as he stands / And they change into flowers in his hands." The bust was presented to Longfellow on 17 January 1870 by a group of his admirers.
