| Description |
English: Burg Eltz is a bit inland from the Mosel River. It is mostly encircled by the Elzbach River, and dominates what had been an important trade route since Roman times. The castle was begun around 1157. The interior buildings were built thourgh the 1600s. Just a bit of half-timbered construction. It looks like for decoration, perhaps during restoration in the 19th century. Burg Eltz is now owned by the 33rd generation of a family, which was raised to the distinction of Counts of Eltz. The setting does not lend itself well to casual photos. |
