Summary[edit]

Description
English: Bunhill Fields Burial Ground The name 'Bunhill' is a corruption of 'Bone Hill' - it is thought that burial and the disposal of human bones have taken place here or hereabouts for about 1000 years. At the end of the seventeenth century it began to be used formally as a burial ground for dissenters - mainly nonconformists - and many notable personages lie here at rest, including John Bunyan and Daniel Defoe. In the mid-nineteenth century it was closed to further burials. See also Bunhill_Fields. There are many fine old trees here also, including plane and sycamore.
