Dynamo Dresden konnte seinen im Vorjahr errungenen DDR-Fußballmeistertitel erfolgreich verteidigen. Mit 3:1 bezwangen die Elbstädter die Leipziger Lok-Elf - hier eine Zweikampf-Szene zwischen dem Dresdner Matthias Döschner (r.) und Stefan Marx - und behaupteten sich damit gegen die vor dem letzten Spieltag punktgleichen Rivalen Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz) und Magdeburg.
