(o-xiotos , split, or divided, with reference to the dorsals + Perca.) 62 BULLETIN 100, UNITED STATES NATIONAL MUSEUM SCHISTOPERCA MACROBRACHIUM, new species Figure 9 Depth 3y2; head 3, width 2. Snout 5% in head measured fromsnout tip; eye 3%, greater than snout, subequal with interorbital,snout tip level with middle of eye; maxillary reaches below first thirdin eye, expansion 2, length 3 in head from snout tip; lips rather broad,fleshy, smooth; mouth well inclined, lower jaw well protruding infront; teeth in jaws barely perceptible, very minute, feeble, incon-spicuous ; interorbital oy5 in head measured from snout tip, moderate,convex; suborbital very narrow, ensheaths maxillary anteriorly; pre-opercle with hind edge furnished with row of few spinules. Loweredge of gill opening with 3 short backwardly curved spines. Gillopening large, extends forward below until opposite eye. Gill rakers10+20, slender, lanceolate.

Vertical fins well covered withsmall scales over basal portions. Prepectoral region with scalessmaller than on body and pectoral fins covered with small scalesbasally. Flap between ventrals formed of 2 large scales. D. VIII—I, 8, i, fourth spine 2y8 in total head length, firstbranched ray 2; A. Ill, 7, i, third spine 2%0? first branched ray 1%;caudal 1%0, moderately forked, with broad pointed lobes and fulcraseries of distinct graduated spines; least depth of caudal peduncle NEW PHILIPPINE FISHES—FOWLER 63 2%; pectoral greatly extended, lower median rays longest, fin 2y10in fish without caudal, rays 12; ventral rays I, 5, fin 2 in total headlength. Color in alcohol largely uniform pale brownish, little paler below.Iris slate. Hind
