Summary[edit]

Description
English:
A 1911 view showing the original 1-story building on the right
The Brigham Motor Company Building at 915 East Pike Street, part of Seattle's original auto row. It was initially constructed from late 1908 to early 1909 by banker Rollin V. Ankeny as a one-story Mission-style brick garage for the Brigham-Fenn Motor Company, who when established in 1908 were the exclusive agents for Cadillac cars in the entire state and most of Idaho. Prior to arriving in Seattle, founder Melville S. Brigham had been manager of Cadillac's sales department in Detroit and the manager of the Brigham Electric Company in Boston prior to that. Co-founder H.C. Fenn, of Sioux Falls, SD, had been selling cars since 1898, but would leave the partnership shortly after their garage opened, and it was henceforth known as The M.S. Brigham Motor Car Co. The top 2 floors were added in 1912, not long after the 3-story Lozier Co. Building was built next door, giving Brigham 18,000 square feet of space. The first two floors were dedicated to show rooms, office and the parts department, while the service department was located on the third. It is believed that Victor W. Voorhees, architect of a majority of the garages in the neighborhood, was responsible for both phases of construction. Only 5 years later in 1917, Brigham, now selling only trucks, relocated several blocks west to 511 E Pike. The building was then taken over by a new Cadillac dealer, the Sunset Motor Company who less than year later was replaced by the Kimball-Horn (then Kimball-Camp) Motor Company, who sold the Apperson car. In 1923 the building was taken over by Henry Mossbach's used car dealership and afterwards housed a rapid succession of parts dealers and used car salesmen. By 1945 it had been converted to office use, which it is still used for today.
