Summary[edit]
DescriptionBridleway, Forest of Rossendale - geograph.org.uk - 130863.jpg |
English: Bridleway, Forest of Rossendale. The horse rider has just come from Clowbridge Reservoir and will join the Pennine Bridleway in about 300 metres. The stone cross is known as Compston Cross after Alderman Samuel Compston who was instrumental in its restoration and re-location to this spot in 1902. There have been crosses in the vicinity since the 11th century to aid travellers across the inhospitable Forest of Rossendale. |
