Title
English: Bridge over Lake Union flier, 1913
Description
English: The building of the Lake Washington Ship Canal in Seattle, which connected Puget Sound with Lake Washington, necessitated the replacement of old, lower bridges with larger ones that could be opened to allow ship traffic. The University Bridge replaced the old Latona Bridge, which connected the western part of Montlake with the University District. The original proposed route of the new bridge was controversial, but once siting was finalized, voters passed the funding bill, and construction began. The University Bridge opened for traffic on July 1, 1919.

This handbill invites "all voters, especially ladies," to a meeting about the siting of the University Bridge. Judging by the dates, this meeting took place February 10, 1913. The route under discussion at the meeting, 10th Avenue East (now Roosevelt) to Eastlake Avenue is the one that was finally approved.
