| Description |
English: Bridge No 19 and Stenson Lock Gates, Derbyshire. The bridge carries Stenson Road. Turbulence in the water shows that not only are the gates leaking, but paddles have been raised and the lock is being emptied. The lock is the last of six wide ones at the eastern end of the Trent and Mersey Canal. It has a drop of 12ft 4in (3.3 metres). Two narrowboats can be accommodated side by side. The maximum beam width for larger boats is ten feet as far as Burton-on-Trent (Horninglow) though I have never seen two of those trying to pass by each other. |
