Title |
Box Lid |
||
Description |
English: Cast and forged copper alloy weight box lid. This is the lid to a box which would have housed a nest of lead weights in the Late Medieval period (16th – 17th century. The simple drilled hinge plate is complete with a recess on the opposing side of the lid. The lid is gently concave and carries no surface decoration. The lid is roughly circular with flatter area at the hinge and recessed end, and two side knobs which would have helped in raising the lid when attached. The back of the lid shows a number of hammer marks. |
