| Description |
Svenska: Borghamn vid Vättern, plats för kalkstensbryning sedan 1100-talet för kyrkobyggena i trakten under medeltiden och nyare tid: Vadstena kloster och slott samt Nationalmuseum i Stockholm. Vid 1800-talets början inköptes Borghamns kalkstensbrott av Baltzar von Platen för Göta Kanalbyggets räkning. Kanalsten dels av soldater, dels av civil arbetskraft. Så småningom blev det svårare att värva arbetskraft varför man inrättade en fångkoloni, en s.k. kronoarbetsstation, om 100 man i Borghamn. Den bildades 1842 och var indelad i fyra klasser, varav en för straffade soldater. Även lösdrivare från arbetsinrättningen i Vadstena samt diverse andra fängelsekunder var intagna här. Man hade även en egen begravningsplats, Bockakyrkogården, strax väster om kolonin.
I byggnadsminnet ingår 22 byggnader och tillhörande anläggningar i form av stenbrott, kajer, pirar, båtslip samt Bockakyrkogården med två hundgravstenar samt tillhörande markområde.
