OUNCE TO ONE THOUSAND PLANTS.
Peppers are indispensable as a seasoning for soups
and meats. The large varieties are mainly used for
this purpose and pickling. The mild sweet varietic s,
like Sweet Mountain, Bull Nose and Ruby King, are
used for Mangoes, wliile the small fruited sorts are
the best for sauces. Sow in hot-beds in March or
April, or on a warm sheltered border in May, and
when the season is favorable, transplant in rows 2
feet apart and 18 inches in the row. in good, rich,
mellow ground.

^TSell Or Hull Nose— Produces a very large-sized
pepper, which is highly esteemed for pickling, the
skin being thicker than any of the other varieties.

Sweet Mountain— Plantsvery vigorous and pro-
ductive, growing upright, with moderately large
leaves. Fruit very large, often 8 inches or more in
length by 2 inches in diameter, very smooth and
handsome, being when unripe of a bright, deep green
color, entirely free from any purple tinge, and when
matured of a rich red. Flesh very thick, sweet, and
mild flavored. Well suited to use as a stuffed pickle.

^Ked Chili— They are pointed like the cayenne,
but not so long nor so thick, and are exceedingly
pungent when ripe. Requires a long, warm season.
The plants should be started quite early in hot-bed.

RUBY KING PEPPER.
Ruby King- Pepper. — Since first introduced
tbfs magnificent variety has so gained in popular
favor that it is now recognized as the best and most
piofitablemild red pepper for market or family use.
Every one who has seen our crops has been enthusi-
astic in praise of the beautiful plants crowded with
the large, handsome fruits of a bright ruby red color
The peppers ordinarily grow A\ to G inches long by
3i to 4£ inches through. Added to their beautiful
color when ripe is the fact that they are
remarkably mild mid pleasant to the taste; in this
respect unequalled by any other red pepper. We
cannot too strongly recommend the Ruby King — so
mild and pleasant "in their flavor they can even be
sliced and eaten with pepper and vinegar, like to-
matoes or cucumbers, and makes a very pleasant and
appetizing salad, while for stuffing and pepper hash
no other variety can equal them — Packets, 5c. and

hot, and is generally used for seasoning soups.

Rbubarb.
r ery familiarly known as the Pie Plant. The foot
stalk is the portion that is used, and is the first vege-
table of the season from the garden ; cultivated to a
great extent, and is indispensable wmerever it is
known. Sow the seed early in the spring, in rows r
foot apart, on rich ground ; the second year after
planting they can be removed, in autumn, to the per-
manent spot allotted to them ; plant the roots 2 feet
apart each way, in ground that is well enriched, at
least 2 feet deep. Packet, 10c. Ounce, 20c. l i pound,
50c. Pound, $1. 50. Roots, 75c. per dozen ; 54-00 per
hundred.
