Summary[edit]
DescriptionBogs of Mayne Memorial near Elgin - geograph.org.uk - 101031.jpg |
English: Bogs of Mayne Memorial near Elgin. Memorial to 20 OTU which was based at RAF Elgin at Bogs of Mayne from 1940 to 1947. The base was used mainly to train Wellington aircrew but other bombers were also based there. In 1942 it was used as a departure point for Wellingtons going to England to assemble to take part in early 1000 bomber raids.Strangely the Memorial is marked on the 1/50,000 OS map but not on the 1/25,000 version!! |
