Summary[edit]

Description

English: The High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) images were acquired on May 16, 2017 during Mars Express orbit 16,934. The image resolution is 13 meters per picture element (pixel). Within the large crater in the left half of the image is a large field of dark dunes. Their shape indicates the prevailing wind direction from the south-east, i.e. roughly from the bottom left. Their dark color comes from material of volcanic origin. A good dozen of the so-called Barchane or sickle dunes can also be seen in the neighboring, smaller crater.
