Description
English: Photograph of Benjamin Grover in uniform. Subject is seated and shown from chest up looking toward the left. Handwritten notation below photo: "Colonel Benjamin Whiteman (sp?) Grover, 27th Missouri Infantry, U.S. Volunteers, who died Oct. 30, 1861 from wounds received in the defense of Lexington, MO Sept. 19, 1861. Col. Grover and Gen. U.S. Grant were (illegible) friends, and the uniform coat worn in this picture and in which he was buried, was presented to him by Gen. Grant when he received his promotion to Brigadier General."
