English: The Colossus of Barletta, detail. The statue is occasionally identified with the east Roman emperor Marcianus (450–457); cf. Alexander Demandt, Die Spätantike. Römische Geschichte von Diocletian bis Justinian. 284–565 n. Chr. 2. vollständig überarbeitete und erweiterte Auflage. Beck, München 2007, ISBN 978-3-406-55993-8, p. 220. The statue is more generally attributed to Leo I, from his Column of Leo in Constantinople.
