Notes The Otago Banking Company (proposed 1851) Sutherland -259- £5, £1, 10s notes, not issued. Note by Mr T.M. Hocken with three unsigned specimens in Turnbull Library- "Specimens of £5 (printed in black and blue), £1 (black), and 10s (blue) notes brought from Home by William Hunter Reynolds in 1851 wherewith to start a Bank. Permission was, however, not granted to the scheme." The name BANK OF OTAGO appears above and THE OTAGO BANKING COMPANY below. Designs £5, and £1, Scottish Coat of Arms, with lion rampant; 10s, crest, Scottish lion and "Nemo me impune lacesset."
