Summary[edit]

Description
English: The W.H. Murphy Building at Market Street between 20th Ave & Tallman Ave was built by Seattle councilman William H. Murphy in 1909 and designed by the prominent firm of Saunders & Lawton to house retail, offices and apartments. It was one of the largest commercial buildings in Ballard at the time but was located rather far from Ballard Avenue, then the main business street. By the late 1920s the rapidly expanding commercial development on Market Street would eventually reach it. The building lost its cornice during a modernization in the late 1950s.
