Summary[edit]
DescriptionAssistant Secretary Tangherlini at the Cincinnati Zoo (5707944456).jpg | On May 9, 2011, Assistant Secretary Dan Tangherlini traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio to help dedicate the nation’s largest publicly accessible urban solar array. The 6,400 solar panels provide shaded parking for the Cincinnati Zoo’s visitors and will produce about 20 percent of the Zoo’s annual energy needs. And on sunny, cool days, they actually send power back to the grid. This project exemplifies the true meaning of a public-private partnership. It was a combination of private investment supported by public financing in the form of New Markets Tax Credits and Treasury’s Section 1603 Program, which provides payments in lieu of renewable energy tax credits, that made this project possible. |
