Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Arthur Humbert House and Store, 10622 Main Street, Clarence, New York, September 2020. Though many of its National Folk-style architectural details were obliterated by a historically insensitive 2019 renovation (most notably the portico, whose support posts boasted classic diagonal brace tips), other original features remain, such as the round-arched windows on the building's west elevation and the stained glass in the twin dormers piercing the side-gabled roof. Dating to the first half of the 1910s, the building served as the home of Arthur F. Humbert (1875-1962), scion of a family that was prominent in Clarence's business and political community, and out of which he operated a general store and pharmacy for many years. The original heavy safe was donated to the Clarence Historical Museum by the building's current owners, who are currently renovating it into a restaurant. Somewhat surprisingly given the extent of those renovations, the house remains a local landmark as certified by Clarence's Historic Preservation Commission.
