Here is a fine new addition to the increasingly popular cluster-flowered Floribundas, which home gardeners are appreciating more and more. The plant of Valentine is low, bushy and compact, becoming 18 to 24 inches high and as much across. The good sized, semi-double, crimson flowers are borne in large clusters which completely cover the plant at the peak of each bloom. The 21/2-inch flowers hold their rich color well and the color is slightly variable according to climate and weather conditions. Sometimes it is a rather dark red, sometimes a lighter and brighter shade, but it always makes an attractive mass of color. We won't say it doesn't fade—it does eventually —but not until each burst of bloom has given you several weeks of magnificent color, and as one burst goes by, almost before you know it, there is another lot of buds ready to open. The newer and better Floribundas are be- ing used more and more to provide brilliant all-season color in the garden, not only in the rose beds but in any sunny spot where such color is desired. While Valentine has a low bushy habit, it is by no means dwarf but is just the right size for a low 2-foot border or hedge. The foliage is dark olive-green with reddish tips and the new growth comes along continuously so that the plant is attractive in appearance. Originated at the Armstrong Nurseries by H. C. Swim. Plant Pat. App. For. $1.75 each; 3 or more, $1.50 each; 25 or more, $1.25 each. 8
