First in alphabetical order, and second in wealth and importance in thelist of California counties, comes Alameda. This county, from its prox-imity to San Francisco, and its many natural advantages, has made rapidprogress within the past five years, and at the present time gives abundantpromise of a very prosperous and brilliant future. As regards population,the census of 1880 gives it at 62,976, but we think it is entirely within thelimits to put the present popvilation of the county at 100,000.
