Apollo 10 Flown Heat Shield Plug

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Apollo 10 Flown Heat Shield Plug: You can see the darkened burn from atmospheric heating during reentry, and the extra available. The Command Modules could have probably survived two or three re-entries, but that was never tried. A wedge-shaped section, sealed in a 3" diameter x 2.5" tall Lucite cylinder with "APOLLO X/ MAY 18-26, 1969" engraved on the bottom. Crewmembers for this mission were Tom Stafford, John Young, and Gene Cernan. From the personal collection of Gemini Program Office special assistant and longtime NASA employee, Paul M. Sturtevant.
