Summary[edit]

Description

And another very peculiar monocot - this time from Spain. It looks like a low rushy tussock until the blue flowers appear at the tips of what had hitherto seemed to be just leaves (the name means something like 'flowers without leaves')

Last I heard this species is completely alone in its family with no close relations at all. At the same time it seems perfectly hardy and easy in the UK given a well-drained sunny site. I guess it's a relic of the ancient pre-glacial Eurasian flora. I wonder what the rest of the family were like?
