Deutsch: St. Ansgar steht zwischen zwei Säulen, die einen Rundbogen tragen,auf einem braun-weiß karierten Boden vor blauem Hintergrund, der Farbe des Himmels. Er trägt Chormantel, Messgewand und Alba, sowie die Insignien seiner Bischofswürde – Bischofstab, Mitra und Pontifikalhandschuhe mit mehreren Fingerringen. Das Modell in seiner Hand erinnert an die erste Kirche, die Ansgar im Gebiet der Hammaburg bauen ließ. Zu seiner linken kniet der Stifter. Das Spruchband über seinem Kopf lautet: „Johan Middelman prebo(situs) ob(iit) 1457“. Die Röntgenaufnahmen machten alte Texte unter der „neuen Farbe“ wieder lesbar. So konnte rekonstruiert werden, dass der schwarz-goldene Rand des Bildes ursprünglich rot war und einen umlaufenden Text trägt (vom Latein ins Deutsche): „Im Jahre des Herrn 1457 am Vorabend der Geburt Christi starb der ehrwürdige Herr Magister Johan Middelman, Probst dieser Kirche, seine Seele möge in Frieden ruhen. Amen.“ Das Tafelbild diente auch als Epitaph für den Verstorbenen. Dieser hatte in seinem Spruchband ebenfalls die Nachricht niedergeschrieben: „ora pro me beate pater Anscharius“ (bete für mich, Seliger Vater Ansgar).
Die golden eingefasste schwarze Umrandung hat auf ihrem unteren Rahmenschenkel „S. Anscharivs Renov: 1668“ stehen. Das Stiftungsdatum und das der nachreformatorischen Umgestaltung sind also auf dem Gemälde selbst festgehalten. |
