Summary[edit]

Description Wooden and steel railway sleepers (railroad ties) are rapidly going out of vogue on the Indian Railways as the tracks on most main trunk routes have concrete sleepers (ties) in keeping with international convention. Only branch and secondary lines, and maybe yards and sidings still have steel sleepers. (Chandigarh, north India, Nov. 2017)
