autrichien voulut mettrele feu à un canon ; le maréchal Lannes lui saisit lebras et retourna la pièce. Des artificiers voulurent envain mettre le feu au pont, ils en furent empêchés, etlarmée passa. Le Salon venait dêtre fermé lorsque ce tableau ,commandé par le gouvernement, fut envoyé de Piome,où lauteur réside depuis deux ans en qualité de di-recteur de lacadémie de France. Il na pu être offertà lexposition publique. Nous avions obtenu de M. le directeur-général duMusée la permission de le faire dessiner; mais à peinecette opération a-t-elle été terminée que le tableaua été envoyé à sa destination , avant que nous ayonspu le voir et en faire lexamen. Cette circonstancenous prive de lavantage den rendre compte. Mais linspection de la planche ne laisse aucuneéquivoque sur la disposition du sujet ; et sous le rap-port de lexécution, ceux qui ont vu les ouvrages deM.
