He refided in London for fome years, and at differenttimes exhibited at the Royal Academy, particularly in theyears 177S and 1781. He painted in a variety of ways—fometimes portraits, butchiefly decorations for ceilings; and was employed in paintingfome of the fcenes for the Circus, in St. Georges-fields. It is a melancholy fa6l that this perfon terminated hisexifience with his own hand, though from what caufe iswholly unknown to the author, nor can he exactly recollectwhen the rafh a<5t was committed, but it was before the year1790. Gertrude Stephanoff, his wife, painted dead game, and flilllife. In the year 1783, me exhibited two pictures, a pheafantand a hare. He was employed in the fervice of his lordfhip for manyyears, in painting a vaft number of plants, which he executedin a very accurate and matterly manner. They were done inwater colours upon vellum. This noble and valuable collection, after his lordihips death,fell into the pofleffion of the honourable Colonel Stewart, whothought proper to difpofe of them, and they were fold by auc-tion at MeiTrs. Leigh and Sothebys, in the fpring of 1794. Mr. Taylor was alio employed by the late Dr. Fothergill,*for whom he painted a collection of plants, which were fold,after the doctors death, to the late Emprefs of Ruffia.
