The sketch represents today's situation of the medieval Jewish cemetery of Frankfurt. In medieval age a square was formed at its south-western corner which in 16th century was used as the Jews market and named after. In 1885 the square got the name Börneplatz after the Jewish writer and satirist Ludwig Börne. 1935 the Nazis renamed this square as Dominikanerplatz after a Roman-Catholic monastery nearby. This name lasted until 1978 before the former name Börneplatz was established again. While the real Börneplatz got lost in the 1950s with a wide street (Kurt-Schumacher-Strasse) and at least in the 1990s with the erection of a modern administration building the Neuer Börneplatz was created at its former north-eastern end in 1996. This all-new square since then hosts a holocaust memorial.

Die Skizze verdeutlicht die aktuelle Lage des Jüdischen Friedhofes Börneplatz, an dessen südwestlichem Ende sich schon im Mittelalter ein Platz befand, der ab dem 16. Jahrhundert als Judenmarkt genutzt und so bezeichnet wurde. 1885 wurde dieser Judenmarkt in Börneplatz umbenannt, von den Nazis 1935 in Dominikanerplatz. 1978 wurde der Platz wieder als Börneplatz bezeichnet, 1996 entstand der nicht mit dem ehemaligen Börneplatz identische Neue Börneplatz direkt am südwestlichen Ende des Friedhofes.
