The Cuneiform (VOs Pyramidal) may be distinguished by its pyramidal shape,and by its having an oval, isolated facet, for articulation with the pisiform bone.It is situated at the upper and inner side of the carpus. The superior surfacepresents an internal, rough, non-krticular portion ; and an external or articularportion, which is convex, smooth, and separated from the lower end of the ulna bythe interarticular fibro-cartilage of the wrist. The inferior surface, directed out-wards, is concave, sinuously curved, and smooth for articulation with the unciform.The posterior or dorsal surface is rough, for the attachment of ligaments. Theanterior or palmar surface presents, at its inner side, an oval facet, for articulation * In these directions each hone is supposed to be placed as it would be if the hand werelaid supine on the table in front of the student, with the wrist towards him. Theexternal surface, the base of the pyramid, is marked by a flat, quadrilateral, smoothfacet, for articulation with the semilunar. The internal surface, the summit of thepyramid, is pointed and roughened, for the attachment of the internal lateralligament of the wrist. Lay it with the surface on which the pisiform facet is upwards, and the con-cavo-convex surface for the unciform in front. The base of the wedge (i.e., thebroad end of the bone) will be on the side to which it belongs. Articulations. With three bones : the semilunar externally, the pisiform in front,the unciform below, and with the triangular interarticnlar libro-cartilage whichseparates it from the lower end of the ulna. The Pisiform bone may be known by its small size, and by its presenting asingle articular facet. It is situated at the anterior and inner side of the carpus, isnearly circular in form, and presents
