| Description |
English: An old gravestone in Kirkland and Glencairn Kirkyard: This old stone in Kirkland and Glencairn Kirkyard is in a sheltered spot which has helped to preserve the inscription. On gravestones of the 16th and 17th centuries, the binding of two uprights in letters was a common feature, as in H and E in the first word HERE. Also a stop after each word was common practice. The inscription reads:-
HERE LYETH THE CO RPS OF JOHN MCCUBI N IN MERUHIRN WH O DEPARTED THIS LI FE THE YEAR 1663 AGE 100 |
