Description
English: Caption"Sergt. Alexander Arch of battery C sixth Field artillery of the First Division is the man who pulled the lanyard in firing the first American shot of the world war. It was in the Lunevllle sector on the morning of Oct. 23, 1917. Sergt. Arch's home is in South Bend, Ind. He will march alongside the historic cannon in the great First Division pageant which will be headed by Gen. Pershing in New York on Sept. 10."
