English: As seen in June 2021: the newly opened Al-Aqsa Supermarket at 1350 Fillmore Avenue in Buffalo, New York. This first Western New York location of a New York City-based chain of grocery stores restaurants catering to a South Asian clientele of the Muslim faith, co-owners Talha Baktah and Mohammed Hasnat were lauded by community advocates not only for offering familiar items for a growing immigrant community but also more generally as a much-needed purveyor of high-quality, reasonably-priced foods in an area of town underserved by traditional supermarkets. Local news reports of its April 2021 opening noted that, unlike the typical corner bodegas in the inner city, Al-Aqsa does not sell alcohol, cigarettes or lottery tickets but instead focuses on halal meats, a large selection of spices, and - above all - fresh fruits and vegetables.
