Summary[edit]

Description

The engine that caught my eye was a Saturn V prototype build from 1959, which lost out to the Rocketdyne J-2 design.

More photos below. And a nod to Spaceaholic (below) for identifying the engine as an Aerojet LR-87 derivative, modified for LH2/LOX to compete in the J-2 competition. The LR-87 first flew in 1959.
