Description
English: Contact force (with adherence or friction) on an ISO thread (screw).
  • α: helix angle (2-3° for an ISO metric screw);
  • θ: half thread angle (30° for an ISO metric screw);
  • φ: friction angle (5-8° when lubricated, about 10° for dry steel-steel contact);
  • F: contact force between the male and female threads;
  • N, T: normal and tangent components of F;
  • Ft: traction force;
  • Fc (= T): component of the force that gives the torque.
