Summary[edit]

Description
English: As seen in August 2022: the building at 1848 Clinton Street stands out from its neighbors in the Kaisertown section of Buffalo, New York with its smooth-textures stone façade and unusually sumptuous Neoclassical detailing, featuring fluted Doric pilaster strips flanking the shop window and twin entrances on either side, ornate elliptical reliefs adorning the entablature above, and decorative urns and scrolls on the parapet fronting the flat roof. The panel just below the parapet is inscribed with "Christ & Naiderek", the name of the real estate company that constructed the building c. 1924 and remained there until the dissolution of the partnership in 1929. Andrew Naiderek continued his solo practice in the building for a year or so thereafter, but then - no doubt due largely to the onset of the Great Depression - downsized to a location across the street. 1848 Clinton was in use for much longer as a bakery, namely the Clinton Sanitary Bakery (later Maslanka Bakery) under the ownership, consecutively, of Helen Szelest and the Maslanka family from 1932 until 1987. Since 2020 it has served as the showroom for the Acme Cabinet Company, a locally-based custom builder of kitchen cabinets.
