Mr. Choate was educated in the public schools of Salem, later enter-ing Harvard College, from which institution he graduated in the class of 52.After a course of study at the Dane Law School, he was admitted to the Barin Massachusetts, and removed to New York City in 1856, where he has sincepracticed with increasing fame and success. Mr. Choate now stands practi-cally at the head of the Bar of the City and State of New York. Indeed, hisreputation is almost as wide as that of his illustrious uncle. His practice isprobably the largest and most lucrative in New York. He is famous as anafter-dinner speaker, possessing a remarkable power of satire. An activeEepublican, he has been identified with the reform movements in the party,and is interested in all that points to the uplifting of the social and politicalconditions of the community and country.
