His dra-peries are broad and easy, and in spite of the injuriesof time, the whole still preserves much of his transparentwell relieved and powerful colour, as well as the marksof his peculiar dexterity of hand. Some of the frescosof the series are not faultless in distribution. They be-tray casual neglect and carelessness. Yet in general theyshow so much life and energy, and are so fairly sustainedby general laws of composition, vigour of character, andbold facility of handling, that the total impression is grand.To Spinellos assistant Niccolo di Pietro Gerini the com-paratively feeble evangelists in the ceiling may be assigned,as they are not unlike the works of that master and hisson Lorenzo which shall be presently noticed. Spinellos increasing fame now attracted the notice of theindefatigable Parasone Grasso of Pisa, who after exhaust-ing the illustrations of the Pisan hero S. Raineri, nowbethought him
