MAIDEN ARCH, BASE OF ARCH ROCK. Indeed, Mackinac might well be the scene of romances yet unwritten, not only onaccount of its unique and beautiful situation, but because of its native inhabitants, inwhose strongly marked characteristics there is yet unmined material for the book-makers. Here are to be found people who were born on the island, have seen theirthree score and ten and never yet stepped foot upon the mainland, those who taughtthe Indians in the old days of the mission, and the fashionable lounger of to-day.
