Summary[edit]

Description
English: The U.S. Department of Energy grossly over estimated growth of solar in 2012, at 113%, when it was actually 58%. Growth of wind and solar is expected to decline to less than 1%/year after 2012 for wind and after 2016 for solar, and not pick up again significantly until after 2030. The average increase expected from 2011 to 2040 for wind is projected to be 2.3%/year and 8.7%/year for solar capacity, with most of that increase occurring in the first year. A more realistic projection shows 100% electricity generation from renewable sources by 2025 (90% from solar and wind), instead of an AEO projected 1.90% from solar and 4.88% from wind in 2040 (reference case, the no sunset case projects 13% electricity from wind and solar in 2040).
