Summary
[edit]Description9 Grid Pitha Mandala Hindu Temple Floor Plan Vastu Purusa Mandala Architecture.svg |
English: Pitha mandala is the smallest Hindu temple format, set on a 3 x 3 grid.
The blue square is Brahma pada. The deep saffron circle in the center symbolically represents Universal One in Hindu tradition, the ultimately goal of all spiritual activity. The light saffron squares are Manusha pada. Typically such a small temple will be enclosed. Its outer walls would have idols or images of deities. Inside the blue square may be the main idol, or it may just have a platform for meditation and yoga. Pitha Mandala are seen in old Hindu temples of Bali and Java Indonesia, in Cambodia and Viet Nam, and in South Asia.
