Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_87930_פשתנית ססגונית_6.JPG Notes: מתוך סדרת נופי צומח צמחי מדבר של עוזי פז. צמח חד-שנתי מרהיב. הגבעול זקוף, נמוך (5–25 ס"מ), קירח, מתפצל מבסיסו. ססגוניותו של המין מתבטאת ברמות שונות: גם הפרח הבודד מפגין שילוב-צבעים עשיר ומרנין; וגם האוכלוסיה מגוונת, יש בה פרחים עם שילובים שונים של צבעים. פורחת בין ינואר לאפריל, בהתאם למועדי הגשמים בכל שנה.גדלה במדבר יבש במיוחד, בעיקר מדבר יהודה וסביבותיו, גם ביתר אזורי דרום הארץ. היא שכיחה כמובן במיוחד בשנים גשומות, כאשר נביטה נמרצת מתרחשת מתוך מאגר רב-שנתי של זרעים שהצטבר בקרקע.
