Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_84699_שקמה - פירות 1.jpg Notes: מתוך סדרת נופי צומח עצי ושיחי תרבות של עוזי פז. השקמה הובאה לראשונה ארצה בידי אדם כבר בשחר התקופה ההיסטורית, לפני 6,500 שנה, ואולי אף כבר לפני 10,000 שנה. העץ ניטע בארץ כנראה בעיקר לשם צילו, גם לשם פריו. הפרי שופע, אכיל, לא נחשב למשובח.כאמור אין הפרחים מופרים בארץ, ואין העץ עושה זרעים, אך בשלב מסויים אפשר לאכול את הפגה. העץ שופע פגות, מספק מזון ברוחב-יד, ו"מלכלך" את סביבותיו. בשפלת החוף מתפתחים על העצים פירות הנוצרים משחלה בלתי מופרה (פַּרְתֶנוֹקַפְיִִּּים), חסרי זרעים, מטיפוסים שונים.
