Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_84169_DSC_1469.jpg Notes: מתוך סדרת נופי צומח עצי ושיחי תרבות של עוזי פז. צבר מצוי נחשב לצמח הארצישראלי האולטימטיבי, סמל טיפוס-האדם הישראלי. זאת אף שמקור הצמח במרכז אמריקה, והוא לא הגיע ארצה לפני גילוי אמריקה. זהו קקטוס מסועף, דמוי עץ, שאינו משתלב יפה במערכת המגירות המקובלת בתור "עץ" או "שיח". מקור שמו העברי של הצבר, בכינויו בערבית מדוברת, סאבאר-صبار מן המילה "סָ֫בַּר"-صبر, שמשמעותה "סבלנות", בשל מיעוט צורכו בהשקיה. השם התקבל כמונח רשמי בעברית, הגם שבערבית המונח הרשמי הוא תרגום מילולי של שמו המדעי "תאנה הודית קוצנית".
